Simon and Ruth Bernstein, my parents, had an idea of starting a men's clothing store in 1963. They had gone to my uncle Harry Marks and asked to borrow some money. So with very little money a lot of ambition and heart, they started Simons Men's Wear on Union Street Schenectady in a very small space.

Day by day the business slowly grew. In four years, Simons moved across the street doubling its size. In 1974, they bought what was then the building housing the Grand Union super market. It had six thousand square feet of space. They saw a great opportunity when people kept asking where they could buy big and tall clothing. Hence they started "Simons Men's Wear Reg Big & Tall".

Then Michael Bernstein (Son) came aboard after he graduated college. The business exploded into one of the biggest men's clothing stores in the Capital District. In 1992, Simon and Ruth retired and Michael continued operating the business. Michael upgraded the clothing line to include Custom Made Suits, Sport Coats, Pants and Shirts. In 2020, Mike sold the old store front building. He grew restless in retirement, so Mike started "Simons Men's Concierge. Dress Clothing. Custom, Better pre-made Suits, Sport Coats, Dress Shirts and Pants". We show our line in your office, home, or where ever else you want to meet.
